Why 'Nude'? The reality of photographers lies in a camera angle. Once I turn my eyes away from the camera angle, objects appear to be unrealistic to me. What I have found in the past 20 years of taking nude photos is that the constrasting concept of such reality and unreality keeps revolving in my mind. Reality in the way that common people understand it is probably not the object which they see through the camera angle, but the actual scene, which they see with their naked eyes. However, it's the opposite for me. When I look at the images of women in the natural background with my naked eyes, I find them unrealistic. I do not look at the objects with a man's sexual desire; they seem to be just like an illusion to me, such as a dream or a fantasy. However, when I take nude photos of women through the camera angle, I fall deeply in love with the bare bodies of women in the natural background. Their beauty is the truth itself. 왜 누드인가 사진가의 현실은 앵글 속에 있다. 일단 내 시선이 앵글을 떠나면 사물들은 비현실적으로 보일 수밖에 없다. 20여 년간 누드를 찍으면서 느낀 것은 바로 그러한 현실과 비현실의 상반되는 개념이 나의 생각 속에서 끊임없이 되풀이 되고 있다는 사실이다. 일반인들이 생각할 때의 현실은 아마 카메라 앵글로 바라보는 대상이 아닌 직접 육안으로 확인하는 사실적인 장면일 것이다. 그런데 나는 그 반대인 것이다. 여체를 세워놓고 육안으로 바라볼 때 나는 그것이 비현실적인 느낌으로 다가온다. 남성으로서 욕망의 대상을 바라보는 눈빛이 아닌 그저 꿈이나 환상같은 것을 보는 것 같은 착각을 하게 되는 것이다. 그러나 반대로 카메라 앵글을 통해 여성의 누드를 찍을 때 나는 여체에 홀딱 반해 버린다. 그 아름다움은 진실 그 자체다. 글, 이재길 (Jae Gil Lee)
